Gonads anyone?

Kina are native to New Zealand and their gonads are highly prized in some Asian and European seafood markets

Sculpture background

This bronze-cast stingray and scallop shell shower and footwash was installed for swimmers and for thirsty canines in 2007.

The motivation came from a letter to the council from local resident Pauline McNeil. Pauline pointed out that there was nowhere for her thirsty Jack Russell, Muffin to drink along the parade.

The scallop shell, cast by top bronze art specialist Jonathan Campbell at his Lower Hutt foundry, is supplied with water from the adjacent bronze ‘kina' that swimmers use to wash their feet of sand.
